Maldives has lost to South Korea in the third match of the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
Maldives suffered a heavy defeat against South Korea in their third match of the AFC Asian Cup qualifications, played on Wednesday.
Maldives drew with Bhutan in the opening game of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifications on Saturday with a score of 2 – 2. This was after Bhutan had taken a two-goal lead, but the Maldives came from behind to score two goals.
In the second game played against Bahrain on Monday, Maldives lost 1 – 0. Although the Maldives lost the match against Bahrain, they showed a good performance.
In the third match the young Maldivian team lost to Korea 13 – 0.
Korea scored five goals in the first half of the match, while the other eight goals were scored in the second half.
Captain Mohamed Ilaan Imran and Yoosuf Ayaan Amir did not play in the match against Korea.
They were absent due to injuries sustained in the match against Bahrain.
Maldives is in Group C in the qualifications, along with Bhutan, South Korea, China, and Bahrain.
Korea, who defeated the Maldives, has climbed to the top of the group table. They have six points, with goal difference giving them the edge.
China, in second place, also has six points.
Bahrain is in third place with three points.
Bhutan in fourth place and the Maldives falls short with only a point, in fifth place.
Maldives’ fourth match will be against China on Friday.
