As part of ‘Operation Hiraas Faas’ conducted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Fire and Rescue Service, more than 300 residential buildings and over 100 warehouses storing hazardous chemicals have been inspected.

‘Operation Hiraas Faas’ roughly translated ‘Operation Danger Check’ was carried out from October 1 – 15.

The operation was launched to ensure that chemical storage and trading facilities comply with the established regulations.

As part of the special operation, efforts were made to raise public awareness about the established regulations on the import and storage of chemicals.

As part of the operation, authorities conducted visits on chemical storage and trading facilities to ensure they were operating in accordance with set regulations.

Further, they identified easily flammable locations and associated risks in the Greater Malé Region.

Marking the conclusion of the operation on Friday, MNDF said that as part of the operation, they checked if chemical storage facilities and businesses were operating according to regulations.

In addition to this, they identified easily flammable locations and associated risks in the Greater Malé Region.

MNDF revealed that inspections were carried out in Malé City, Hulhumalé, Vilimalé and Thilafushi.

Over the course of 15 days, inspection teams collected information from 399 residential buildings, 144 warehouses storing hazardous chemicals, and 62 outlets involved in the trade of hazardous chemicals.

Officers from the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service, MNDF Malé Area Command and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) participated in this operation.

The operation was carried out in response to previous incidents of dangerous fires at such warehouses.
