Discussions have been held on implementing legal action against non-compliance by those sentenced to drug treatment.
The discussions were held between the National Drug Agency (NDA) Board and the Drug Court.
NDA revealed that discussions were held between the NDA Board and the Drug Court on taking legal action against those who do not cooperate after being sentenced to treatment under the Drug Court and beginning treatment implementation, as well as on further strengthening the treatment system.
Further, it was decided to discuss the steps that need to be taken by both parties to achieve desirable results in the work done jointly by the NDA Technical Committee and the Drug Court.
NDA has discussed implementing legal action against those who do not cooperate after beginning treatment implementation and work has also commenced on establishing rehabilitation treatment centers across three regions of the Maldives.
These centers are set to be established in Kaashidhoo island of Kaafu atoll, Velidhoo island of Noonu atoll and in Laamu atoll.
To facilitate opportunities for those who wish to seek drug rehabilitation treatment abroad, an MoU has been signed with Solace Asia CDN BHD of Malaysia, and it has been designated as an NDA-approved center.
In a bid to expand the Remand Center service provided by the agency across the nation, arrangements have been made to provide Remand Center services at all NDA residential treatment centers.
NDA earlier stated that detox services were launched in Dhaandhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll’s health center in collaboration with the agency.
Further, methadone treatment services were also rolled out in March 2024 at the Fuvahmulah Drug Detoxification and Community Rehabilitation Center.
