A youth has been arrested and remanded in connection with a drug bust.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the youth was arrested at the Domestic Terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA) while attempting to smuggle drugs.

Criminal Court remanded Abdulla Faseeh, 24 and native to Noomara island of Shaviyani atoll, to five days behind bars.

He is accused of attempting to transport ingested drugs.

He was arrested on October 7, while at departure.

Suspected narcotics were found, initially weighing 340 grams.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his remand hearing, the suspect was given a five-day remand, according to the police institution.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, police revealed that the operation stemmed from an intel report.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.

No further arrests have been made in connection with the case.

The police institution did not clarify whether the drugs were found on him or inside the bag he was carrying.
