The first couple is in India on their inaugural bilateral visit.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed was seen off at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Sunday morning.

The visit comes upon an official invitation from the neighboring country’s president, Droupadi Murmu.

The first couple’s trip will conclude on October 10.

As part of his visit, Muizzu will sit down for talks with the neighboring’s country’s president as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage in discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Muizzu’s visit is expected to pave the path to further boost cooperation, and the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.

He will also head to Bangalore and Mumbai to engage in business-related events and discussions.

This is the president’s first bilateral visit to India since assuming office as the eighth president of Maldives in November 2023.
