An accident involving a car and a motorcycle has occurred near the bridge between Hulhumalé Phase I and II.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the accident was reported to authorities on Wednesday morning.
The police went on to reveal that the motorcycle rider suffered some skin abrasions in the accident.
The police stated that they are conducting further investigations in connection with the accident.
Road accidents have seen an alarming surge of recent, with many lives lost. In the wake of this, the government has taken numerous measures to address this issue. The measures were announced on September 6, in the wake of a fatal accident that took a life.
In similar accidents, two people died in the past week alone.
In response to this, the government has taken additional measures to increase road safety and security.
As such, MPS has initiated additional efforts to ensure road safety and security in the Greater Malé Region.
The police institution has commenced setting up vehicle checkpoints in several regions of the capital Malé City as well as Hulhumalé, to inspect vehicles.
In a message to media, the police institution revealed that they are currently working on raising awareness and advising the public to pay special heed to road safety when operating vehicles.
The public has been urged to complete all necessary safety measures before using vehicles, for the safety of everything.
These efforts are expected to enhance road safety and security, reducing accidents and fatalities.
