70 percent work on cat shelter completed: Mayor Azim

70 percent of the work on the cat shelter being built in Hulhumalé, has been completed.
This was revealed by Malé City Mayor Adam Azim, during a meeting the City Council held with residents of the capital, at Lonuziyaaraiy Park in Henveiru-ward on Sunday evening.
Speaking at the gathering, Azim stated that the cat shelter is being built to tackle the issue of the increasing population of stray cats in the capital region.
This is being done as Malé City is the most visited island for outlying islands’ residents as well as tourists and as they “have to bear the brunt” of challenges as well as conveniences faced in the capital region.
Azim revealed that 70 percent of the cat shelter being built to address this issue, has been completed.
This is a joint initiative with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
Announcing the project earlier, Malé City Council had revealed that it would be completed by September and opened for use.
