Campaign launched to erase graffiti, boost aesthetic appeal of Malé City

A campaign has been launched to erase street graffiti that violate social norms.
The campaign was launched jointly by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Malé City Council.
The campaign was introduced as part of a broader initiative to establish a crime-free and safe society and comes in a bid to remove graffiti across several areas in the congested capital city, that violate public social standards.
It is an initiative of the MPS Gang Crime Enforcement unit.
As part of the campaign, public spaces will be cleansed of writings and paintings that are deemed inappropriate for public viewing, particularly where a lot of children gather.
The police institution revealed that the inscriptions and drawings targeted in this operation were identified as inappropriate for the public and unfit for social norms.
MPS revealed that the initiative seeks to improve the aesthetic appeal of the capital city.
The campaign will also ensure that public areas remain welcoming and safe for all, especially young people.
The police institution revealed that the campaign will continue in a series of phases and will in turn address the different areas of the city.
MPS revealed that they remain committed to their task of creating a safer and more orderly city for all residents and visitors alike, as the campaign progresses.
