Arrests have been made as part of a drug operation conducted in capital Malé City.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the drug operation was conducted by officers of the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) and Police Intelligence Unit.

The operation stemmed from suspicions of illegal drug peddling and trafficking and was conducted on July 15.

Officers raided a residence in the capital city and confiscated 278 rubber packets and a small plastic packet stuffed with suspected narcotics, as part of the operation.

Arrested in connection with the raid was a 22-year-old and a 33-year-old.

Both suspects are men, native to Bangladesh.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for their remand hearing, the two men were remanded for a period of 15 days behind bars.

DED is currently conducting further investigations in connection with the case.
