Discussions have been held on exploring cooperation on trade and economy between the government of Maldives and the government of Eritrea.

This was done during a meeting Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to the Maldives Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam held with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following a ceremony to present his credentials.

The ceremony, held at the President’s Office on Monday, saw the Eritrean ambassador presenting his Letters of Credence to the Maldivian president.

Woldemariam is the first-ever Eritrean Ambassador accredited to the Maldives.

The Eritrean ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from the Republic Square in a cultural procession, with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around cooperation on trace and economy as well as avenues of cooperation at the international level.

Maldives and Eritrea established diplomatic relations on 10 February 2021.

The Eritrean ambassador is accredited to the Maldives as a non-resident Ambassador and resides in New Delhi, India.
