Kevin Kelly, the newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland to the Maldives has expressed commitment to increase collaborative opportunities with the government of Maldives.

This was done during a courtesy call he paid on Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moosa Zameer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The newly appointed Irish Ambassador presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu earlier on Monday.

Welcoming the new Irish Ambassador to the Maldives, FM Zameer congratulated him on the presentation of his credentials.

Ambassador Kelly expressed gratitude to FM Zameer and expressed his firm commitment to increase collaborative opportunities with the Maldives during his tenure.

The meeting was joined by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya, Secretary Bilateral Dr. Hala Hameed, Senior Under Secretary Hassan Hussain Shihab, Senior Political Director Ahmed Haanee Naeem and Chief Desk Officer Aminath Shaistha Hamdan Zaki.

After presenting his credentials to the Maldivian leader, Ambassador Kelly discussed areas of further collaboration between the two countries, with President Muizzu.

Some of these include tourism, green energy, and working together to address shared concerns faced by both countries as a result of climate change.

The new Irish Ambassador is accredited as a non-resident Ambassador and resides in New Delhi, India.

Maldives and Ireland established diplomatic ties on 7 December 1999.
