The passing of Abdul Hannan Haleem Dhoshimeyna Kilegefaanu is a tragic loss to the entire nation, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The president said this in a message of condolences offered to the bereaved family of the late Haleem, in a message on social media platform ‘X’ on Wednesday.
He offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and stated that Haleem’s passing was a significant loss to the country.
Muizzu prayed for him to be granted eternal peace.
Haleem, who served as the Public Safety Minister which is equivalent to the current Minister of Defence, during the presidential term of Ibrahim Nasir, passed away at the age of 87.
He is to have passed away some time on Wednesday while receiving treatment at Tree Top Hospital.
Haleem was 87 at the time of his death.
Having served the state as the Minister of Public Safety for the first 10 years of the Second Republic of the Maldives, the late Haleem also served for the country as a Member of the Parliament and filled several other important positions spanning the course of his long career.
Haleem was laid to rest after Isha Prayer on Wednesday. His funeral prayer was held at the Hulhumalé Cemetery Mosque.
