Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) have seized a large stash of alcohol on a safari near Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll and made an arrest.

The operation was conducted after receiving an intel report that alcohol was being peddled illegally on the safari, near Maafushi island.

During the operation, officers confiscated more than 200 bottles of alcohol and cans of beer.

Arrested in connection with the case was a 62-year-old Maldivian man.

The operation was conducted by officers stationed in Maafushi island, the Drug Enforcement Department (DED), the Forensics Department, Police Intelligence as well as the Marine Police.

MPS is currently conducting further investigations in connection with the case.
