Vape-related fines total MVR 127,000 in July
Starting from 15 December 2025, the use and import of vapes has been banned in the Maldives
22 individuals were penalized in different cases related to vaping, in July.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that the total amount collected in fines for various vape-related offenses in July, amounts to MVR 127,000.
According to the police institution, 22 individuals were fined for various vape-related offenses in July.
Starting from 15 December 2025, the use and import of vapes has been banned in the Maldives. The law also includes provisions for imposing hefty fines for vape use.
The police institution recently released statistics on the fines imposed under the law in July. According to the statistics released by the police institution, the total fines for vaping in July amounted to MVR 62,000.
In addition to this, the total fines for selling or buying vapes throughout July reached MVR 7,000. Further, MPS’s statistics show that the total fines for possessing vapes during July amounted to MVR 58,000.
With the amendment to the Tobacco Control Act, substantial fines will be imposed not only for using and trading vapes but also for distributing them for free.
Accordingly, importing devices used for vaping and products prepared for use with such devices will result in a fine of MVR 50,000, while each imported electronic cigarette or vaping device will incur a fine of MVR 10,000.
As part of the government's measures to control tobacco in the Maldives, the use, sale, and trade of vapes have been prohibited. Further, the minimum age for purchasing and selling tobacco in the Maldives has been set at 21 years.
