A man has been arrested in connection with a drug bust.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the arrest was made during a drug operation conducted in Hithaadhoo island of Baa atoll after being tipped off regarding a drug smuggling attempt.

Officers of the Police Intelligence Unit and those stationed in Baa atoll conducted the operation jointly.

The 31-year-old Maldivian man was arrested from the harbor region of the island on Friday.

As such, the suspect is to have tossed the box he was carrying, upon spotting the officers in the harbor region.

Officers confiscated an empty film cannister and nine rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics inside the box.

Further investigations are currently underway in connection with the case.
