Two remanded over kidnapping case
The condition for remand is based on Section 49 of the Constitution
They have been charged with kidnapping, threatening with a sharp weapon and robbing
They were remanded for a period of 15 days, in a custodial prison

Two individuals have been remanded over a case of kidnapping.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) sought the remand of a woman and a man, at the Criminal Court, in connection with the case.

Remanded in connection with the case is a 39-year-old Maldivian woman and a 43-year-old Maldivian man.

They were remanded for a period of 15 days, in a custodial prison.

They have been charged with kidnapping, threatening with a sharp weapon and robbing.

The remand order states that the reason for ordering their remand was that sufficient evidence (enough to prove the accused committed the offence) has been submitted against them.

As such, the two individuals are accused of taking an individual inside a room, threatening and robbing the individual.

The statement received during the investigation and snapshots of CCTV footage have been submitted as evidence as well.

The condition for remand is based on Section 49 of the Constitution and Sections 59 and 60(b) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The reason for considering the remand has been cited as, in the interest of the safety and security of the community, and section 13(c) of the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to trial, (1) involvement of an arrest and remand (3) involvement in the crime and (6) organizing the crime with a group.
