Accidents reported so far this year
Over 1,000 traffic accidents reported by April

The number of accidents reported by April this year has exceeded 1,000.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that within the first four months of the year, a total of 1,044 traffic accidents have been reported.

This was announced by the police institution through its latest statistics of reported traffic accidents.

The number is a significant surge in comparison to the same period last year according to authorities. Throughout the same period last year, authorities reported 709 traffic accidents.

MPS revealed that out of the 1,044 accidents reported by April, 1,009 were reported to police stations across the Greater Malé Region.

In January 2024, authorities recorded 263 traffic incidents, with 268 reported in the month that followed. In March, 301 accidents were reported and April saw 212 accidents recorded by the authorities.

At a time the number of accidents has been surging, the latest one was observed within the past 24 hours when a fatal accident involving a car, a van and a bus took place in Hulhumalé.

The car driver was injured in the accident and treated at Tree Top Hospital for injuries attained.

However, police cited doctors having revealed that he did not sustain any serious injuries.

In addition to this, two dangerous road accidents were reported in Fuvahmulah City in the south of Maldives in the past week.
