Former President Mohamed Nasheed has called on incumbent President Abdulla Yameen to stop politicizing the military.
He made the comment via twitter, highlighting that 59 Army's Special Protection Group (SPG) officer had been detained and that they were only released after confiscating their phones.
"I urge President Abdulla Yameen to stop politicizing the military," he added.
The former President's tweet comes after reports surface that a number of military officers were being detained over a leaked audio of Defence Minister Adam Shareef, where he is addressing the concerns of the SPG, regarding events that took place on the parliament floor this Monday.
RaajjeMV understands that the detained officers are the ones that took part in the meeting.
However, media officer at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) denied these reports, insisting that "there has been no such thing".
Earlier on Wednesday, an audio was leaked of the Defence Minister, where he vowed to 'settle' the issues of the parliamentarians and claimed that he would have resorted to 'fist fights' in order control the MPs.
