Members of the Addu City Council have assured their full support for the incumbent administration’s development plans.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the members of Addu City Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Sunday.
The meeting was held as part of the president’s tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
President Muizzu will be visiting several islands in the south including Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Gaaf Alif and Gaaf Dhaal atolls as part of the tour.
During the meeting held at the Secretariat of the Addu City Council, councilors touched upon ways to improve health services and address issues with access to medications, water sanitation, powerhouses, the electricity sector, and ports.
They also engaged in discussions regarding social and infrastructure development in the southernmost city, including housing, sports facilities for youth, creating jobs, land reclamation in Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo, road construction, and concerns of farmers and fishermen.
The meeting also saw members of Addu WDC speaking about the city's social needs and financial challenges they face.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured that he would work with relevant authorities to seek agreeable solutions to the issues raised at the meeting.
He went on to assure that his administration would prioritize the city’s economic advancement when implementing development plans.
The first destination of the president’s tour is Addu City, where he received a warm welcome.
During the tour, the president will be engaging in fruitful discussions with the councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of the cities and islands.
He will also hold discussions regarding the intended development plans for the respective island communities.
The island residents are also expected to share their pertinent needs, issues faced and concerns with the president.
Muizzu earlier expressed commitment to work closely with the people to deliver development promises.
As such, the president will be visiting and collaborating with local councils to mirror his commitment to ensure development for the people through a hands-on approach, to ensure that development projects echo the people’s needs and goals.
The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials during the tour.
