The government of Pakistan has pledged to support the development needs of the Maldives.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was assured of the support of the government of Pakistan to address the pressing development needs of the island nation, by the eighth caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul Haq Kakar during a telephone conversation on Thursday.

Both leaders engaged in discussions regarding ways to solidify the bilateral ties between the two countries, during the call.

Further, President Muizzu and the eighth caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan also discussed top priorities for both governments and talked about enhancing cooperation in the international arena.

In addition to this, the eighth caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan went on to convey his support and assistance to the efforts of the Maldives to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and Pakistan on 26 July 1966.
