MP Faris’ trial ongoing

The Parliament Committee on Petitions have been halted until Committee Member and Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon can attend the Committee session.

Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid reported in RaajjeTV’s ongoing live coverage of the day’s Parliament proceedings that the Committee’s decision was a unanimous one.

MP Shahid, who is also a member of the Committee, said that he had proposed that the Committee can only be carried with MP Faris present. This, he noted, was seconded by Mathiveri Constituency MP Hussain Mohamed.

Therefore, MP Shahid said the Committee was on halt until MP Faris can be brought to the Committee.

MP Shahid added that all MPs have to be able to attend Parliament and Committee sessions, even if he or she is under trial or investigation.

MP Faris is currently under the custody of the authorities. He was detained for the duration of the investigation on the attempted bribery charges of fellow Parliamentarians.
