President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has observed a minute of silence to mark the unity displayed by Maldivians during the 2004 tsunami.

The minute of silence was observed at 9:23 am, the recorded time the Tsunami hit the Maldives in 2004.

The President was accompanied by Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and President's Office staff in the grass field south of the President's Office, the site of the former Huravee Building.

Several government employees in Malé City participated in the minute of silence in the street close to their workplaces.

In the Maldives, December 26th, the anniversary of the 2004 tsunami that caused the loss of many lives and widespread damage and destruction in the Maldives, is marked as National Unity Day.

President Dr. Muizzu had previously stated via a social media post that Maldivians had chosen unity in every devastating circumstance the country faced.
