Three individuals have been arrested with a large stash of alcohol from a safari outside of Maafushi island in Kaafu atoll.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that officers conducted the raid on the safari upon receiving a tip-off that alcohol was being trafficked on the vessel.
The operation was conducted on November 30, jointly by officers of the Drug Enforcement Department, Maafushi Police Station and the Maldives Customs Service.
Arrested in connection with the case were a 21-year-old Maldivian man, a 22-year-old Maldivian man and a 53-year-old foreigner.
Officers who conducted the raid confiscated 237 bottles of alcohol and 309 cans of beer during the operation.
Upon being presented to the court for their remand hearing, the 21-year-old was remanded for a seven-day period, the 22-year-old was remanded for a period of 13 days and the 53-year-old foreigner was given a 15-day remand period.
The police Drug Enforcement Department is conducting further investigations in connection with the case.
