Two more individuals have been arrested in connection with the gang violence reported from southernmost Addu City.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that two more individuals were arrested under a court order on Monday, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to six.
Arrested on Monday were a 22-year-old Maldivian man and a 23-year-old Maldivian man.
Initially, four individuals were arrested sometime on Saturday night, in connection with the assault.
As such, arrested under a court order were an 18-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 23-year-old.
All the suspects arrested in connection with the violence, are Maldivian men.
A 30-year-old Maldivian man was critically injured in the gang violence, that was reported sometime after sundown on Friday.
The critically injured victim was initially rushed to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).
After being treated at AEH, the 30-year-old was transported to the capital’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) at around 9:30pm on Saturday.
Doctors at IGMH have reported that the victim remains in critical condition and is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Police teams were dispatched to the southernmost city to ensure its safety and security.
MPS had launched special efforts to ensure the safety and security of both Malé City and Addu City, following cases of assault reported in the capital on November 29 and the case reported from Addu City on December 1.
