The critically injured victim of a gang violence reported from southernmost Addu City, has been transferred to the Maldives capital Malé City for further treatment.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that a 30-year-old Maldivian man was stabbed in the gang violence, that occurred sometime after sundown on Friday.
The police institution cited doctors at the Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) having revealed that the man was brought in, in critical condition.
After being treated at AEH, the 30-year-old was transported to the capital’s Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) at around 9:30pm on Saturday.
Doctors at IGMH have reported that the victim remains in critical condition.
The police institution has confirmed that they have found those involved in the gang violence and were trying to take swift legal action.
Four individuals were arrested sometime on Saturday night, in connection with the assault.
As such, arrested under a court order were an 18-year-old, a 19-year-old, a 20-year-old and a 23-year-old.
All of the suspects arrested in connection with the violence, are Maldivian men.
Police teams have since been dispatched to the southernmost city to ensure its safety and security.
MPS had launched special efforts to ensure the safety and security of both Malé City and Addu City, following cases of assault reported in the capital on November 29 and the case reported from Addu City on December 1.
