Discussions have been held on promoting cooperation between the governments of Maldives and Türkiye in agriculture and fisheries.
The discussions were held during a courtesy call Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye İbrahim Yumakli paid on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday as part of the latter’s official visit to Türkiye.
Türkiye’s Agriculture and Forestry Minister called on President Muizzu at the Presidential Guesthouse on Tuesday.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around potential avenues for collaboration between the two countries in areas of shared interest.
The Maldivian leader shed light on the significance of enhancing partnerships in existing areas of cooperation both within the bilateral and multilateral spheres.
Further, President Muizzu and the Turkish minister engaged in discussions regarding promoting and enhancing bilateral trade, particularly around cooperation in sectors of agriculture and fisheries.
Deliberations also touched upon implementing training programs tailored to the needs of the agricultural industry.
During the meeting, President Muizzu and the Turkish minister reaffirmed their mutual commitment to advance the relationship between the two friendly nations, with a vision of reaching exceptional heights in the future.
Maldives and Türkiye established diplomatic relations on 28 May 1979. This year marks 44 years since the inception of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Maldivian leader headed to Turkey with his spouse, Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials on November 26 and concluded the trip on November 29.
