A man has been jailed after refusing to provide a urine sample upon being instructed by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The Criminal Court sentenced the suspect implicated in a drug-related case, to one year in prison, for refusing to hand over a urine sample.
The police institution launched a manhunt for the suspect earlier and took him into police custody under accusations of allegedly abusing drugs and drug possession.
The suspect was instructed to provide a urine sample in custody, and he refused to do so, within 18 hours after he was instructed to do so.
Charges against him were raised under Section 17/2011 of the Drugs Act.
As the suspect had denied the charges raised against him, the prosecution had submitted evidence at court.
The police officer active in the case was presented as a witness as well.
Based on the evidence presented in the case, the Criminal Court found him guilty and sentenced him to one year behind bars.
