The government of Maldives is to donate two million cans of tuna to the people of Palestine.
This was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday.
As such, the President’s Office revealed that the government will be donating in-kind assistance to the people of Palestine, of two million cans of tuna.
The donation aims to support the ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian and relief aid to those affected by the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel.
Taking to X following the announcement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid revealed that the donation is a symbol of the Maldives’ strongest solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The foreign minister assured that the Maldives will always stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle to achieve self-determination and lasting peace.
Israeli armed forces have been carrying out unprovoked air strikes across Gaza since October 7. Israel declared war on Palestine after Hamas launched a mass military operation into the territory of Israel on October 7 in response to Israeli violation of the Al Aqsa Mosque. Attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers have since spiked and the death toll has exceeded the 5,000-mark as of Tuesday.
