An individual has been arrested under accusations of abusing and peddling drugs.

The Criminal Court issued an order to arrest and remand Ali Yooman Jihad, 22 and native to Gadhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.

The drug suspect has been remanded for a period of 30 days.

The court order, issued upon the request of the Maldives Police Service (MPS), states that the reason for ordering his remand is that sufficient evidence has been produced to prove that he has committed the offence, he is accused of.

The court order goes on to reveal that several drugs were confiscated on him and in the room he resides in.

Officers who raided his room also found materials used for peddling drugs.

Furthermore, the suspect’s urine analysis had also confirmed that he had drugs in his system, according to the court order.

With this, Yooman has been remanded for the safety and security of the community, as stated under Article 49 of the Maldives Constitution and Sections 59 and 60 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The court order also stated that the reason for the detention is that the provisions of Section 13(c) (1) and (4) of the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the trial, are met.

One of the reasons mentioned also state that the suspect has a detention record linked to drug-related cases.
