The government has refused to comment on reports that Abdulla Mahil Shaheem, son of Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has been appointed to the High Commission of Maldives in Malaysia.

Apart from official reports by media houses, there have been reports circulating on social media, claiming that Mahil has landed a position at the high commission that promises more than MVR 100,000 in pay.

Several attempts by RaajjeMV seeking comments from the government’s spokesperson as well as ministers at the president’s office were to no avail as said officials failed to answer the station’s calls and texts spanning the course of four hours.

There has been no official confirmation from any official government authorities that Mahil has been appointed to such a position.

However, despite repeated questioning, the government and agencies concerned have not denied these claims, with which these reports are believed to be true.

Documents containing salary details of his post have been leaked on social media.

According to these documents, each of Mahil’s children living in Malaysia earn USD 1,200.

The documents also reveal that the high commission will pay for water, internet, rent, travel as well as school fees for his children.

According to the documents, he has been promised more than MVR 104,000 as salary and allowances.

However, the authenticity of these figures could not be established as the government did not respond to queries from RaajjeMV.
