President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu wishes to invite the Prime Minister of neighboring India, Narendra Modi, says Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed made these remarks in an interview to an Indian media outlet.
Nasheed stated that the Transition Office has informed that Muizzu wishes to invite PM Modi to his inauguration and that the People's Majlis will send an invitation to the Prime Minister.
Nasheed expressed that he also wishes that PM Modi would accept the invitation and attend the ceremony. He noted that this would help solidify the Maldives-India relations.
The Vice President of People's National Congress (PNC), Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), in an earlier interview to an Indian media outlet has stated that India will be the nearest and dearest neighbor of Maldives and that the President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's first foreign trip is expected to be to India.
In his phone interview, Mundhu stated that the new elected government would absolutely like to continue the tradition, where the first foreign trip by a new Maldives president is to neighboring India.
