The reclamation of land in two islands, has been contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The contracts were signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Monday.
Signed on Monday were contracts to implement a land reclamation project in Funadhoo island of Shaviyani atoll as well as a land reclamation project in Kinbidhoo island of Thaa atoll.
Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the government and Chief Operating Officer Shahid Hussain Moosa signed it on behalf of MTCC.
As part of the Funadhoo land reclamation project, MTCC will be reclaiming 25 hectares of land.
Further, the company was contracted to conduct drainage bioswale operations in 1,185 meters and to conduct boat beaching dredging operations in an area of 35,400 cubic meters.
The Funadhoo land reclamation project is valued at MVR 139.72 million.
The project was contracted to be completed within 360 days.
The ceremony was graced by MP for Funadhoo constituency, Mohamed Shahid.
Under the project to reclaim land in Kinbidhoo, MTCC will be reclaiming 25 hectares of land and dredging an area measuring 306,162 cubic meters.
More work that come under the scope of the project include 1,528 meters of drainage bioswale.
The Kinbidhoo land reclamation project is valued at MVR 148.20 million. The project was contracted to be completed within 340 days.
The ceremony was graced by MP for Kinbidhoo constituency, Mohamed Nashiz.
The implementation of both projects will begin only after an Environmental Impact Assessment is carried out.
