President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has embarked on a tour of Shaviyani atoll, to launch his campaign for re-election in the 2023 Presidential poll.

The Maldivian leader departed on the tour at 7am on Sunday and his first destination was Komandoo island, where he met the island community and held optimistic discussions.

As such, the president pledged to develop an airport on Kudafaru island of Shaviyani atoll.

The second destination of the president’s tour was Maroshi.

He was accorded a warm welcome upon arrival at both islands.

President Solih headed to Noomara island as his third leg of the tour, on Sunday afternoon.

His next destination was Foakaidhoo island, where he will be inaugurating the water and sewerage system and the island’s new harbor.

In Foakaidhoo, the president will also be officially inaugurating the island’s health center and the football ground developed on the island.

The president will be holding gatherings in all four islands as part of the campaign tour and engaging with the island communities.

A special gathering will be held in Foakaidhoo at 9pm on Sunday, to officially launch his re-election campaign.

The president will be returning to the capital Malé City following the conclusion of his Shaviyani atoll campaign tour, in the early hours of Monday.

Members of the Cabinet including Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Defense and National Security Mariya Ahmed Didi, and others as well as top political figures including MP for Kaashidhoo constituency Abdulla Jabir, MP for Meedhoo constituency and leader of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ahmed Siyam Mohamed are accompanying the President.
