Case filed by Premier Chambers

Premier Chambers has filed suit in court, asking for a review on the legality of the current Attorney General Mohamed Anil.

The case was filed on Wednesday evening.

Premier Chambers is the law firm of prominent lawyer Maumoon Hameed.

The case comes at a time when the Attorney General had filed case in the Supreme Court asking for a ruling whereby any parliamentarian who had defected or dismissed or left the party they were elected on, will stand to automatically lose their parliamentary seat. The motion had been decried by many lawyers and the opposition.

The case filed by the law firm says that the law is clear on the ex-parte case sent by AG to Supreme Court, adding that this was an overreach of powers by one branch of the state over the other.
