10 organizations have been conferred the Civil Society Awards.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih conferred the Civil Society Awards to recipients during a ceremony held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE) on Thursday evening.
Marking a significant milestone for the Maldives, the Civil Society Awards aim to encourage social empowerment, inspire proactive engagement by civil society and to raise awareness regarding social issues.
The awards, being conferred for the first time in Maldives, also recognize and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of civil society.
The organizations that were conferred the Civil Society Awards are:
- Southern Community Empowerment Association of Maldives who received the award for protecting and empowering women, children and youth,
- Care Society who received the special needs sector award,
- Ihavandhoo Masveringe Gulhun or the fisher community of Ihavandhoo who received the education sector award,
- Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adhabee Lhenveringe Jamiyya who received the award for preservation of our culture, traditions, historical heritage and the language,
- Naifaru Juvenile who received the award in the environment sector,
- Aged Care Maldives who received the award for efforts in the health sector and building a healthy society,
- Jamiyyath Thauvaan, Daylight Club, the Scout Association of Maldives and Girl Guide Association of Maldives who received the Special Regonition awards.
The Civil Society Award is an initiative of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and the first of its kind in the Maldives.
