President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration aims to build a whole new Addu City, says Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail.
Minister Fayyaz stated this while speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the expansion project of Gan International Airport (GIA).
Taking the podium at the event, Minister Fayyaz stated that the current administration will work to make the dreams of the Addu City citizens a reality.
Minister Fayyaz said that the first thing President Solih took on, after assuming office was to designate Addu City as the economic hub of the south. He noted that the President started arranging necessary funds before taking office.
Highlighting that Addu City is the second most populated city of the country, the Economic Minister noted that Addu has the most human resources as well.
The Minister also stated that Addu City plays a prominent role in promoting decentralization.
Furthermore, Minister Fayyaz stated that the economic growth of Addu City will lead to the economic growth of the whole country and noted that impacts of the the economic growth of the northernmost part of the Maldives will have an impact on the entire economy.
Furthermore, Minister Fayyaz stated that the government is aiming to offer an enjoyable life for the people.
Noting that some people are concerned about the number of projects underway in Addu City, Minister Fayyaz stated that this is the mindset of those who wish to concentrate development on Male' City, alone.
Minister Fayyaz stated that the inhabitants of Addu City clearly understand the truth, even if certain people talk against the truth in order to achieve political advantage.
