The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid has met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Hayashi Yoshimasa.
Minister Shahid met with Japanese counterpart in Tokyo, on Tuesday.
During the meeting Foreign Minister Shahid conveyed his appreciation for the continuous support and assistance provided to the people of Maldives by the Government of Japan during the past 5 decades.
Minister Shahid also reiterated the long-standing and friendly relationship between Maldives and Japan.
The Japanese Foreign Minister, Hayashi noted the strong bilateral relations that exists between the two countries and expressed his appreciation to the Maldivian Government for its cooperation with Japan on international and regional issues, especially in realizing the ‘Free and Open Indo Pacific’ vision.
Furthermore, the two ministers reflected on the close historical relationship between Maldives and Japan, and concurred to collaboratively cooperate towards further enhancement of the bilateral and multilateral relations.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan Hassan Sobir, Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Ameeth Ahmed Manik, Joint Secretery Mariyam Midhfa Naeem and Assistant Director Mohamed Shujau.
