Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has discussed tackling climate change with the first-ever Ambassador of Slovenia to the Maldives, Mateja Vodeb Ghosh.
Ambassador Ghosh paid a courtesy call on FM Shahid after presenting her Letter of Credence to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as the newly appointed Slovenian Ambassador on Sunday.
Welcoming her to the Maldives, FM Shahid congratulated Ambassador Ghosh on becoming the first-ever Ambassador from Slovenia to the Maldives.
FM Shahid and Ambassador Ghosh shed light on the long-standing bilateral relations between Maldives and Slovenia during the meeting.
Discussions touched upon ways to tackle climate change as well as promoting sustainable development.
FM Shahid was accompanied by State Minister Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary Economic Cooperation Dr. Hussain Niyaz, Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed and Chief General Service Officer Lujaina Thasneema during the meeting.
Further, Ambassador Ghosh also called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel on Sunday, where discussions revolved around areas of mutual interest such as climate change and gender equality.
The Slovenian Ambassador was among the ambassadors and high commissioners from eight countries who presented their Letters of Credence to President Solih on Sunday.
The ceremony saw Letters of Credence presented from the newly appointed Ambassador of Mongolia Ganbold Dambajav, Ambassador of France Jean-François Pactet, Ambassador of the Russian Federation Levan Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Siniša Pavić, Ambassador of Hellenic Republic Dimitrios Loannu, Ambassador of Slovenia Ghosh, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia Gabriel P. Sinimbo and High Commissioner of the Republic of Canada Eric Walsh.
After the credential’s ceremony, the Maldivian leader sat down with the ambassadors and high commissioners for discussions.
