Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has stated that discriminating against a certain race or nation would destroy the beautiful name the Maldivian tourism industry has made.
Minister Shahid made the statement while speaking at the ceremony held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). The ceremony was held at Kurumba Maldives on Wednesday.
In his speech, the Maldivian Minister noted that Maldives should always remain a country that welcomes and establish good relations with other countries.
Highlighting that the tourism industry is the main industry of the Maldivian economy, Minister Shahid stated that Maldives should always hold a certain standard in welcoming tourists and establishing relations with other countries. As such, he noted that Maldives should always remain a welcoming country.
Speaking about MTDC, Minister Shahid highlighted the company's efforts to expand tourism in Maldives, over the past 15 years. He emphasized on the efforts made by the company to ensure that its shareholders were not harmed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, Minister Shahid Minister Shahid praised the company for making the company profitable for its shareholders in 2020 and 2021.
The Minister went on to note that the company currently has four women on its board of directors, and added that more efforts should be made to provide women with the opportunities.
