Vice President Faisal Naseem has said that the administration's plan is to introduce holistic education at the Gn. Atoll Education Centre before it embarks on its golden jubilee anniversary.

The Vice President made these remarks while speaking at the function held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Gn. Atoll Education Center, on Friday.

During the function, the Vice President noted that Gn. Atoll Education Center was one of the schools where the administration plans to introduce holistic education, focusing on students' academic and social needs.

The VP went onto highlight the school's significant achievements over the past 40 years, and extended his appreciation to the management and teachers who had served the institution since its inception.

Questioning the role of schools and the education sector in general, the Vice President noted that neither infrastructure and resources nor teachers alone could build generations of productive citizens. He stressed that the task requires a whole-of-society approach and called on the nation to bear on their shoulders the responsibility to help and support building the country's future generations.

The Vice President also addressed the students on the need to learn new skills throughout their time in school. Noting that there are many job opportunities in many different fields, the Vice President urged students to make the most of their time in school to learn technical and vocational skills.

The ceremony also saw the long-serving staff of the school being presented with plaques of appreciation. As such, VP Naseem handed over plaques to staff who had served the institution for over 30 years.

The school was opened on April 20, 1982, and caters to students in grades 7-12.
