President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has arrived in Faresmaathoda island in the Gaaf Dhaal atoll. The purpose of the visit is to attend the festivities to commemorate this year’s Fishermen’s Day, on Sunday.
During the visit to celebrate the 42nd Fishermen’s Day, President Solih will be joining the official function to mark the day on Sunday evening.
President Solih will also be visiting stands at the Fisheries Expo during his trip.
Further, he is scheduled to make an appearance at the fish-filleting contest organized by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture.
President Solih is also scheduled to sit down with the fisher community and inquire about their work.
Discussions will also be held on development plans for the island, as well as the most pertinent issues facing the island community, with the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC).
President Solih will end his brief visit to Faresmaathoda and return to the capital Malé City on Monday.
The President’s Office in September revealed that the official festivities to mark this year’s Fishermen’s Day will be held in Faresmaathoda, following the recommendation of President Solih’s Cabinet of Ministers.
The decision was reached after deliberations were held on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture.
Maldives celebrated its National Fishermen’s Day in Gaafaru island of Kaafu atoll last year.
Maldives has been celebrating the National Fishermen’s Day on December 10, since 1981.
