Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs is to attend the 10th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s special envoy.
The President’s Office revealed this via a publication on Wednesday.
As such, FM Shahid will be leading the delegation of Maldives on behalf of President Solih at the 10th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the OACPS.
Held under the theme “3 Continents, 3 Oceans, 1 Common Destiny: Towards a more sustainable and resilient OACPS”, the summit is being held in Luanda, Angola.
A delegation of high-level government officials is accompanying the Maldivian foreign minister during the trip.
FM Shahid and the Maldives’ delegation departed from Velana International Airport (VIA) for Angola, on Wednesday evening.
Maldives is expected to be accorded full membership in the organization at the Summit, where attending Heads of State and Government will endorse the archipelago nation’s application.
Maldives gained "Observer Status" of OACPS in June 2022.
All member states of the organization recently supported the island nation’s application for full membership during the Council of Ministers Meeting held in Brussels, Belgium, from November 27 – 28.
