Former Secretary General of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Anas Abdul Sattar has been appointed spokesperson of the ruling party.
This was announced by MDP on Thursday.
Anas served as the Secretary General of MDP from 2015 – 2020 and most recently filled the position of president at the MDP Council of Appellant Judges.
Upon announcing his candidacy in the last local council elections for Malé City Mayor, Anas had resigned from his post as MDP’s Secretary General.
He also serves as a Minister of State for Finance, since appointed in August 2021.
The new MDP spokesperson has a Bachelor of Laws L.L.B. (Hons.) Shari’ah and Law from the International Islamic University, in Islamabad, Pakistan and represented a number of state institutions as a legal counsel including the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Malé City Council, Maldives Broadcasting Commission and Addu International Airport.
For a period of two years dated from July 2019 to June 2021, Anas filled the position of Executive Committee Member to the Maldives Bar Council.
