Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said that 93 per cent of the port development work for S. Hulhudhoo is complete.

MTCC said the work is now underway and the second shipment of large stone has been delivered to the site.

The project includes dredging of 88,623 cubic meters of port, construction of 114 meters of outer embankment and construction of 742 meters of road embankment. It also includes rivetment of 624 meters, pavement of 2250 acres and installation of street lights.

In addition, 742 meters of road canal, 2,250 acres of pavement and street lighting will be installed. The work was awarded to MTCC on a design and build basis in 2020 at a cost of MVR 66.3 million.

The EPA had earlier ordered the suspension of all dredging works in Hulhudhoo as the project was working against the acceptance of the environmental impact report. However, MTCC has announced that the work is now underway again.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Under the project, the harbor-bridge column works have been completed. Concrete works have been carried out on the road.
