The Embassy of Maldives in Washington has been renamed.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih renamed the embassy, on Thursday.

The President’s Office made the announcement via a directive issued on Thursday.

As such, the embassy is to be known as the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives to the United States of America, henceforth.

The decision, initially made on September 25, comes under the discretion vested in the president by Section 116 (a) of the Constitution of Maldives.

Thursday’s directive also emphasized that the number 488 should be used in all official documents sent to the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives to the U.S.
