Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has concluded his official visit to Japan.
Minister Shahid visited Japan to represent the Maldives on behalf of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as his special envoy, at the funeral of Japan’s former Prime Minister.
FM Shahid attended the state funeral of the former Japanese Prime Minister on Tuesday morning and represented Maldives at the funeral service held in Tokyo.
The funeral service was also attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel and Ambassador of Maldives to Japan, Hassan Sobir.
During the visit, Minister Shahid also met with Prime Minister of Japan Kishida Fumio.
Additionally, the Minister met with his counterpart from Japan, Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa on Tuesday before returning to Maldives. During the meeting, the two ministers reflecting on the close historical relationship between Maldives and Japan. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance the partnership bilaterally, through economic and development cooperation and in the international fora, in commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The ministers also exchanged views on key areas of bilateral and multilateral interest.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to Japan Hassan Sobir, Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Ameeth Ahmed Manik and First Secretary Shafraz Rasheed.
