Not act of open idolatry, it is talked about to defame the island : Bilehdhoo council

There are false stories being spread on social media and some media outlets that people are openly practicing Hinduism in Bilehdhoo. These stories are being spread to defame Bilehdhoo.

Bilehdhoo Council President Ahmed Aslam told Raajje MV that three foreigners came to the attention of the council , worshiping Buddha in Bilehdhoo early on Thursday night. The incident has been reported to the police, he said. The event was witnessed by a few people in the island and this is the first time such a thing has happened, he said.

A video of foreigners worshiping Hinduism in the island has been circulated on social media. There has been a lot of criticism from the public. The island council issued a statement saying that the rumors that the council is not working to stop the worship of the idol are untrue. The council said in a statement that such actions would never be accepted.

Police are investigating the incident further.
