The man that was arrested under allegations of molesting a minor inside a shop in the congested capital, Malé City, has been remanded pending the outcome of his trial.
The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that the Criminal Court has remanded the man until the outcome of his trial.
The man, a 24-year-old expatriate was arrested in connection with the case on Friday.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) received reports of a 10-year-old falling victim to sexual abuse inside a shop in the capital city, on Wednesday.
The man was arrested under a court order.
Further investigations are currently underway.
At a time cases of child abuse have been spiraling in the Maldives, a total of 92 such cases were reported to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in July alone.
Out of the 92 cases reported, 11 were to do with child abuse.
