The government has sought the approval of the People’s Majlis to appoint the Ambassador of the Maldives to the Federal Republic of Germany, Aishath Shaan Shakir as the non-resident ambassador of six more European countries.
The letter addressed to the parliament by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, was read out by the Majlis Secretariat during Thursday’s sitting.
The letter sought Majlis approval to appoint Shaan as the non-residential Ambassador to Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Ukraine.
Shaan was appointed as the new Ambassador of the Maldives to the Federal Republic of Germany on 20 July 2022. The People’s Majlis approved her appointment on 24 May 2022.
As per regulations, non-resident ambassadors are accredited to countries where a resident embassy has not been established.
Shaan previously served as the Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry.
