Three injured in group assault inside a house in the capital

Three individuals have been treated for injuries attained after being assaulted inside a house in the congested capital, Malé City.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the assault took place after sundown on Thursday and that they received reports of the altercation at around 10:45pm.

The attack was reported to have occurred inside a house in Maafannu district of the capital city.

Injured in the assault were a 23-year-old, a 35-year-old and a 36-year-old, all males.

All three sought treatment at the hospital, for injuries attained in the assault.

Although no arrests have been made in connection with the assault so far, police revealed that further investigations are currently underway.

The police institution earlier revealed that the increasing cases of gang violence and altercations, is the most concerning issue in the Maldives. As such, 44 “gangs” are known to be active across the capital city alone, according to the police.

At a time gang violence and conflict have been spiraling, police are yet to confirm if Thursday’s case is linked to a gang conflict.

Findings so far indicate that about 2,800 individuals are active in such “gangs”, of whom 60 are children.

MPS has also voiced fear the gangs may spread to different regions of the country.
